Looking for a frequency generator for your meditation practice or to recreate the Schumann resonance at home? Models look very similar in photos, but their features vary. Here are the criteria to check before you buy.
1. Frequency range
This is the first criterion. Some devices only offer 7.83 Hz, others a few preset frequencies, and others a full range.
- Fixed 7.83 Hz: simple, but limited to the Schumann resonance.
- Programmable: you choose the value, ideally down to a hundredth of a hertz, to explore 432 Hz, the Solfeggio frequencies, chakra frequencies or the Schumann harmonics.
2. Emission mode
This is the most often overlooked point. 7.83 Hz is too low a frequency to be heard or reproduced by a speaker (see what is a hertz). So check how the device emits the signal:
- Via a coil: the device directly emits a low-intensity electromagnetic field. This is the right mode for 7.83 Hz, and it works silently.
- Via an audio output (jack): handy for listening to audible frequencies on a speaker or headphones, but ineffective for very low frequencies.
The best compromise is a device that offers both.
3. Waveform
Go for a sine wave, the purest form, which corresponds to a single frequency. Square waves contain many harmonics and produce a harsher sound.
4. Display and controls
A screen showing the current frequency and a numeric keypad let you know exactly what you’re emitting and change the value in seconds. Models with + and − buttons are far less convenient.
5. Power supply
A 5V USB power supply is the most practical: a phone charger or a power bank is all you need, and the device can be used anywhere.
6. Housing
Many generators are sold as a bare circuit board. It’s lighter and cheaper, but it needs to sit on a dry, non-metallic surface, away from liquids, children and pets. Check this information in the description.
7. The seller
- A clear, honest description: be wary of healing promises. A frequency generator is a wellness device, not a medical device.
- Stated delivery times and package tracking.
- A return window — at least 14 days to change your mind.
- Secure payment.
